Arkansas may be known for its natural beauty, but the “Natural State” is also notorious for severe weather. As seasons change, strong storms can bring damaging wind, hail, downpours, and tornadoes. When destruction strikes, Arkansas Roofing Kompany has homes and businesses covered.
When Tim and Debbie Goodwin started the Conway-based Arkansas Roofing Kompany in 2011, their focus was on providing exceptional roofing, gutter, siding, and window applications to central Arkansas residents. The Goodwins succeeded in their efforts, earning an A+ rating with the Arkansas Better Business Bureau and being voted the “best roofing company” in the Best of Faulkner County from 2014 to 2023. Google reviews rate the company at 4.4 stars, and Facebook reviews show a 96% approval rating.
Jason Edwards was working as a project manager for ARK when Tim Goodwin was ready to retire. “We are good friends, and I told Tim if he was ever interested in selling the business to let me know,” Edwards said. When Edwards acquired ARK in February, he wanted to continue building on the Goodwins’ legacy. His goal as the new owner is to extend ARK’s reach, working with top developers on more commercial, state, and municipal projects.
“Tim had a good footprint in Conway, and I wanted to scale it to the whole state,” Edwards said.
Edwards, who has been in the construction industry for over a decade and owned his own roofing company for two years, knows that roofers are not in short supply. He said while it’s fairly easy to get into the industry, the caseload can be overwhelming, particularly after a major storm.
“You have to have timelines, contracts, crews, regulators… That’s where a lot of roofing companies don’t succeed. The devil is in the details. It takes a lot to deliver consistently,” Edwards said.
Maintaining a business that is ethical, productive, and satisfactory to customers requires careful consideration and investment, especially in human resources, according to Edwards. “The primary investment I’ve made into the company is with people. We feel like the profits will come as long as our customer service is top-notch,” Edwards said.
ARK employs 22 licensed and certified professionals among its offices in Conway, Mountain View, Fort Smith, and Jonesboro to ensure consistent service statewide. Operations Manager Jim Wheeler and Production Manager Enrique “Ricky” Vallejo offer over 80 years of combined experience in the construction industry. ARK inspectors are all HAAG certified, which means they are trained to effectively assess storm damage to homes and businesses.
“This is really important, because we live in a hail state,” Edwards said. “So when our representatives are on the job, they can give an honest interpretation of what insurance companies will offer.” This insight can save customers from filing unnecessary insurance claims, according to Edwards.
ARK’s office administrator and financial controller, Candy Turpin, also maintains a project management system connecting detailed customer profiles to the in-house staff involved in a project. This keeps everyone on the same page when referencing a customer’s preferences.
“With a compartmentalized business model, each person can do their part of the job great,” Edwards said.
While the people are a major contributor to the ARK’s success, the equipment and products they use also make a difference. ARK utilizes state-of-the-art tools like an equipter— a hydraulic dumpster that raises to roof level and commutes around the house on turf-safe tires. A “Catch-All” tarp system further protects lawns and gardens from falling shingles, nails, and other debris.
In addition to industry-standard shingles, ARK offers R-panel, standing seam metal, and luxury applications such as tile, slate, and vinyl. They guarantee the best price and match the manufacturer’s warranty on all products. Residential applications are covered by a lifetime warranty, and commercial applications are warranted for 20 years.
“We will make sure we are the most competitively priced,” Edwards said. “We can only do that through careful project inspections and considerations.”
