Conway Behavioral Health Hospital offers comprehensive psychiatric and addiction treatment for adolescents and adults in a secure setting with personalized programming that helps patients regain control of their lives.

The hospital provides acute inpatient care for adults and adolescents who are dealing with mental, behavioral, or psychiatric health disorders. Its services are designed for individuals whose symptoms are severe enough to have impaired their ability to function or put them at risk of harming themselves or others.

“We treat individuals who have been experiencing significant challenges, such as psychosis, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder, suicidal behaviors, homicidal behaviors, and related concerns,” said Alicia Nicholson, director of clinical services.

Nicholson said Conway Behavioral Health Hospital’s goal is to help patients achieve a level of stabilization that allows them to return home or step down to a less intensive level of care.

Conway Behavioral Health Hospital offers acute, inpatient programs for adolescents and adults, as well as an intensive outpatient program and partial hospitalization program for adults.

The acute, inpatient programs provide psychiatric care for adolescents and adults in crisis. This can include conditions such as depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and harm to self or others.

Nicholson said the hospital focuses on cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy techniques. This helps patients engage in a variety of activities that bolster their physical, mental, and emotional health, she said.

Activities can include group and family therapy, art, music, yoga, nutritional guidance, and more.

“When it is time for a patient to leave, our staff will provide a detailed aftercare plan,” Nicholson said. “This will identify services to help them continue progressing in recovery.”

The hospital’s intensive outpatient program is geared toward men and women who could benefit from structured support with limited treatment hours as they prepare to transition out of care. This program is open to those who have already completed a more intensive level of care or need a more structured treatment experience. Common disorders routinely treated through this program include anxiety, bipolar, depression, adjustment, and borderline personality, among others.

IOP provides treatment three to five days per week with each session lasting three hours. Most patients remain in the program for more than 20 sessions.

“The majority of their time will involve group therapy,” Nicholson said. “Groups are excellent opportunities to learn about the challenges you’re facing, develop essential skills, learn from others who are in similar situations, and share your insights and experiences.”

When someone, or knows someone who, is experiencing severe symptoms related to mental, behavioral, or psychiatric health disorders, finding the treatment center that best fits that person is essential, Nicholson said.

“There is no such thing as one perfect type or level of care for all mental, behavioral, or psychiatric disorders,” Nicholson said. “What’s most important is identifying the treatment center that’s prepared to provide the care you need in the manner that’s best suited to you.”
